None of any Unix/Linux distribution should be used without proper tuning, benchmarking, and setup. If one presumes that a Linux-out-of-a-box can be used in production environment, one is not taking full advantage and considerations of the Linux operating system.

Experiences:
I have built and dealt with the Unix/Linux operating system for over 6 years. This includes setting up proper softwares, permissions, fixing bugs, tuning, benchmarking, hardening, etc.
